About Monte Solberg

The Honourable Monte Solberg P.C. served as the Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat Alberta from 1993 to 2008. For almost three years he served in Prime Minister Harper’s Cabinet, first as Minister for Citizenship and Immigration and then Minister for Human Resources and Social Development. Since retiring from politics in 2008 Monte has built a career advising some of Canada’s largest corporations.

Today he is a founder and principal at New West Public Affairs, and a political columnist for the SUN newspapers. He frequently appears on television political panels. Recently he debated  columnist and NDP candidate Linda McQuaig at the Broadbent Institute Progress Summit in Ottawa.

He is currently the Acting Chair of Canadian crown corporation, the International Development Research Centre.
