Alberta Enterprise Group is proud to present the Canada Connects Mission to Washington, D.C. The goal of the mission is to connect with U.S. and Canadian political leaders and engage in a conversation about challenges facing the most prosperous trade relationship the world has ever seen.

Dramatic Change in Washington

Since the highly-successful AEG-lead mission to Washington in 2008 the United States political landscape has changed dramatically. There is a Democratic president and the most recent mid-term election saw the balance of power shift to Republicans. With 18 months remaining before a Presidential election, the policy environment, and Canada’s trade position with the United States is in flux. It’s critical for the Alberta business community to take the lead in building bridges and engaging in discussions in order to ensure ongoing positive trade and security relations between our two countries remain a top priority.

Significant challenges to be addressed

Canada Connects delegates will participate in information-sharing sessions on topics including cross-border trade and security, overcoming barriers to trade, Canadian energy and economic impacts on both sides of the border and environmental challenges and their impact on trade and investment.

The Canada Connects experience

The Canada Connects mission gives business leaders from across Canada the opportunity to give back to the province simply by telling your story. Take part in the interactive sessions, network with high-level decision makers from both sides of the border and be an ambassador for the Province of Alberta and Canada. Delegates will stay at the five-star W Hotel in Washington, next to the White House and minutes from historic monuments. Sessions will be held in the U.S Senate, the remarkable Canadian Embassy as well as the ultra-modern W Hotel facilities. AEG has reached out to United States Congressional leadership, the United States business community and the U.S. and Canadian Ambassadors to secure their participation.

The Alberta Enterprise Group track record

Since 2008 AEG has built a solid track record of organizing high-profile events that showcase the Alberta business community and build networks extending around the world. In 2008, AEG brought 100 business leaders to Washington to meet with Congressional leaders. In 2009 we brought 60 business and political leaders to Geneva, Switzerland to tell the European financial community and the world about investment opportunities in Alberta. In 2010 an AEG delegation travelled to Ottawa to meet with political and business leadership – including Prime Minister Stephen Harper – to deliver the message that success for Alberta brings opportunity for the entire nation.

The bottom line

The AEG motto is “leaders in action.” Alberta and Canada must continually strive to build relations and increase our profile in important global markets in order to maintain and enhance Canadian prosperity. Alberta already is on the international stage, it’s time for you to take that stage and build bridges to lasting prosperity and security. Be an ambassador for your province and country. Join AEG, Canadian business leaders in the Canada Connects 2011 business mission to Washington, D.C.
