Geneva Economic forum to focus exclusively on Alberta

April 2, 2009

EDMONTON – The Alberta Enterprise Group is helping Alberta companies tell their stories to the world in Geneva, Switzerland on May 4-5, 2009.

The Alberta Economic Forum, organized by AEG, will bring together international energy leaders, trade financiers, private and public bankers, financial analysts and portfolio managers to discuss investment opportunities in the Alberta economy.

“The opportunity that exists in Alberta is substantial, even in this period of global economic uncertainty,” said AEG President Tim Shipton. “Alberta is a model for government and business working together to achieve broad based economic success. Alberta’s resources, talent and technology will be on display in Geneva.”

A delegation of Alberta business leaders will represent a broad cross-section of the Alberta economy. Alberta sponsors include, Bio MS, North American Energy Partners Northwest Upgrading, Titan Trading Analytics and TransAlta.

Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach will be featured as the forum’s keynote speaker.

Forum topics include:

  • Alberta’s world class economic potential
  • Alberta’s leadership in carbon capture and storage and environmental best practices
  • Alberta’s emergence as a global energy power
  • Alberta’s regional alliances
Key presenters include TransAlta’s Stephen Snyder, Tristone Capital’s George Gosbee, Oil Sands Developers Group Chairman Don Thompson, Shell Canada President Brian Straub and Total’s Jean-Jacques Mosconi.

AEG partnered with Swiss-based Academy and Finance, Washington-based GWEST and Vancouver-based Carriere Consulting to organize the event – which is the first European investment conference to focus exclusively on the Province of Alberta.

“There is no more important objective for our continued economic growth and development than access to capital,” said Shipton. “Going to Geneva, a global centre of finance, makes sense especially in light of the uncertain North American financial markets.”
