About the Speaker

MLA Shane Getson

MLA Shane Jetson

Shane Getson was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland on April 16, 2019, and has served on several legislative committees, sub committees, and international organizations representing the Alberta Government.  In addition, he has led two significant Task forces: one on Economic Corridors, and the other on Career Education.  He was named parliamentary Secretary of Economic Corridors in October 2022.

Shane and his wife have been married for over 20 years and have four children whom they have raised on a small hobby farm in Parkland County.  Shane grew up on a farm, and his wife in a small town and as such, Parkland County just felt like home – a place where they could set down roots and raise a family.

Shane is a Civil Engineering Technologist whose consulting company focused on major linear projects which allowed him to travel and work predominantly in Canada and the USA. He credits growing up on a mixed farming operation with teaching him that things are not always easy, hard work does pay off, and you reap what you sow.

That kind of work ethic has served him well, allowing him to have a successful career in major projects construction, and translating into his approach as the MLA. With the projects that he has been involved with, he learned the skills necessary to collaborate with a variety of teams, to work through challenges, and to pull together in the pursuit of a common goal. These are principles that he has applied several times in his work as an MLA.

Outside of his MLA duties, Shane loves shooting sports, trail riding, spending time with his family, promoting aviation, piloting his plane taking pictures of our beautiful province and sharing that joy with others. He is an Albertan through and through and very proud that is able to  represent the interests of such a dynamic range of hardworking people in the constituency he fondly calls “God’s Count
