On behalf of all AEG members and friends of Cal Nichols, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Nichols family on the sad news of Cal’s passing.

I had the privilege of working alongside Cal when Alberta Enterprise Group was founded, with Cal serving as our first Chairman and remaining our Chairman Emeritus to this day. Cal believed deeply in AEG from the beginning and in what we were trying to build — a strong voice for Alberta business and a group of leaders committed to making the province better.

He brought to AEG the qualities that defined his life — a genuine love for Alberta, a strong belief in its potential and a willingness to stand up for what he believed was right.

Cal was a builder in every sense of the word. He built successful businesses, gave generously of his time to organizations and causes he believed in, and rallied people around issues that mattered. Whether it was helping keep the Oilers in Edmonton, giving back to his community or championing Alberta, Cal stepped forward and made things happen.

Cal often spoke about reciprocity as a core value — the idea that when you have benefited from the support of others and your community, you have a responsibility to give back.

Cal was genuine, generous and deeply committed to the people and province he cared about.

Alberta is a better place because of Cal Nichols. There are so many AEG members who knew Cal, learned from him and consider him a friend.
